Gymnazium Jana Opletala (GJO) is located in a small town of 10,000 inhabitants. It is a general secondary school where students aged 11–19 study in four- or eight-year-long educational programmes. At present, there are 300 students and 25 teachers. Despite the school being rather small, it has a strong position within the region as it provides education to students from numerous surrounding towns and villages.

The school offers a wide range of extracurricular activities and clubs, for example a mixed choir with foreign experience, sports, science, technical and art clubs. It puts a special emphasis on multicultural approach. The school has participated in the projects of international cooperation (Comenius) in recent years and also in the AIESEC project Edison which is focused on intercultural education. It has also taken part in the intercultural program AFS, which arranges student exchange programme. A number of AFS students from abroad (Italy, Mexico, Thailand) have studied at the school. GJO closely cooperates with the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Palacky, Olomouc and it is also a member of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network.
